Chisos Basin. Ringed by massive cliffs and superlative views, the Chisos Basin is Big Bend's year-round focal point. Located at 5,400 feet, mild temperatures make the Basin a pleasant place to visit in the summer heat. Numerous trails begin in the basin, and range from short walks to longer backcountry hikes.

What you don't see is how high up you are! From the viewing area to the river below, you're right at 1,000 feet (100 stories). First, you'll pull off Highway 89 about 4 miles southwest of Page, AZ. The entrance to the parking area is well marked. You'll pull up to the entrance shacks and pay the $10.00 fee and park in the paved parking lot.
When the sun comes up, check out the White Domes Trail, which forms a 1.1-mile loop through a narrow slot canyon, or look for the 2,500-year-old petroglyphs along the .4-mile Mouse’s Tank Trail.
