The D5100 kit lens can only go down to f/3.5 when shooting towards the wide end (18mm) and f/5.6 when shooting towards the long end (55mm). In order to get a nice bokeh effect, enable Portrait mode (or Aperture priority with the lowest f-number selected) and zoom between 50mm and 55mm. The suggestion that your shots are all "slightly blurry" suggests that this is exactly the problem. The 6D can remember the setting changes for up to 40 different Canon lenses and even 3 variations of the same model of lens. I believe this works with Sigma lenses as well although Sigma still have a quality control issue with their lenses.
