After 200 hours on vanilla (up until just as Mare Nostrum came out, since the DLC before that), I finally wanted some DLC.
As Eu4 continues to mature, my guess DLC is going to continue to be used as the justification for continued development. As technical debt builds throughout the project, managers are eventually going to make the decision to migrate to Eu5 once it becomes clear that the pricing models available (DLC and Subscription) are no longer pulling in
Third Rome, Cradle of Civilization, Rule Brittania, Dharma, Golden Century, Emperor. While I like the game a lot, the base price of 90 euro for all this dlc is unreasonable to me. Which dlc are the most important, and with my normal focus on europe, military dominance and wars which dlcs could be the most game changing for me.
Worth getting, but by no means necessary for a solid gameplay experience. Tier 4: Nice to Have, but not necessary. Adds something to the game, but it is only ever worth buying on sale. Situational: Some DLC are very situational and could be Tier 1/2 in certain circumstances or Tier 4 in others.
Yeah the amount of dlcs for the game is kinda absurd and some are overpriced. However this is just how they fund the non stop development of the game. If not for dlcs then this game would have stopped patching a long time ago and you probably would be buying eu6-7 by now instead of playing a polished eu4.

So I am just about to buy the game and want to get the most from it but I see there’s like 3 dozen dlc here. I can’t afford much and some of them are priced at like 2/3 the price of the game with mixed or worse reviews but I don’t know if some really bring a lot to the game.
